Hugh Michael Seely

The Right Honourable Sir Hugh Michael Seely was the 3rd Baronet, and also the 1st and last Baron Sherwood. The Barony was created in 1941 and become extinct when he died in 1970 because he had no children. The Baronetcy passed on to his brother Sir Victor Basil John Seely, 4th Baronet. Hugh Michael Seely was born on the 2nd October 1898. He was educated at Eton College and was a Lieutenant in the Grenadier Guards. He was a Member of Parliament from 1922–24 for East Norfolk, and Berwick-upon-Tweed between 1935–41. He became the Joint Under-Secretary of State for Air from 1941–45, and the Honorable Treasurer of Liberal Central Association in 1941, to which he donated significant funds. In 1947 he became an Honorary Air Commodore in the Royal Air Force. In 1942 he married the Honourable Molly Patricia Chetwode, the daughter of the 1st Viscount Camrose. He was the son of Sir Charles Hilton Seely, 2nd Baronet. He was the nephew of John Edward Bernard Seely, 1st Baron Mottistone.

He was the nephew of John Edward Bernard Seely, 1st Baron Mottistone and the son of Sir Charles Seely, 2nd Baronet.
