Helen Jean Black

Helen "Jean" Black passed away on Oct. 14, 2009 in Lubbock, Texas.

Jean was born in Baird, Texas on Oct. 30, 1922 to Clyde and Grace (Welch) Seelye. She married James F. Black in Dec. of 1941. In 1944, Jim and Jean moved to Lubbock. They were members of Broadway Church of Christ. Jean was preceded in death by her husband Jim; her parents; and two sisters, Jewell Harris and Christine Bridges.

Jean is survived by her son, Bobby Black of Lubbock; and two daughters, Melissa and husband Elvin Verett of Ralls, Texas and Gaynell and husband Jerry Hendrick of Lubbock. She will also be missed by her grandson, Matt Verett; and granddaughters, Laura Jeffcoat and Morgan Hendrick.

On Saturday, Oct. 17, 2009, a visitation with the family will start at 2 p.m. at Resthaven's Mausoleum Chapel. The funeral service will start at 3 p.m., and Joe Burks will officiate. Internment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the Lubbock Children's Home.
