LOWELL -- Shirley G. Seeley, 78, of Lowell, died Sunday, January 13th at D'Youville Senior Care Center in Lowell.

She was born November 23, 1934 in Yarmouth, Nova Scotia, Canada, the daughter of the late James Leonard and the late Ora E. (Kenney) Seeley.

Before retiring, Shirley was employed as a cashier at the former St. John's Hospital in Lowell (now known as Lowell General Hospital -- Saints Campus). Previously, she was an assembler with Wang Laboratories in Lowell.

Shirley was an outstanding volunteer at CTI in Lowell for over 20 years in the Senior Corps Programs at the following sites: the Lowell Memorial Auditorium, Lowell Summer Music Fest, Lowell Folk Fest, Farmer's Market, Lowell National Historical Parks, Tsongas Arena and the Salvation Army. She was also a member of the freemasonry fraternal organization, the Order of the Eastern Star.

One of her proudest accomplishments was when she received the Massachusetts Senior Service Hero Award at the State House in Boston in the year 2000.

Among her many enjoyments, Shirley loved crocheting and knitting, often creating and donating sweaters, hats and mittens to various shelters and children's programs. Most recently, she was making and donating many styles of stockings.

Shirley is survived by a brother Ronald Edward Seeley and his wife Margaret of Halifax, Nova Scotia; several nieces and nephews; and will be dearly missed by her close friends Linda Bloomgren of Lowell, Diane Wojcik of Tyngsboro, Judy Nelson of Chelmsford and the CTI Senior Corps staff.

She was also the sister of the late James Seeley and the late Earl Douglas Seeley.

SEELEY -- In Lowell, January 13, 2013, at D'Youville Senior Care, Shirley G. Seeley, 78, of Lowell. Friends may call on Thursday morning at the O'DONNELL FUNERAL HOME, 276 Pawtucket Street at Fletcher from 9:30 to 10 o'clock with her Memorial Service to immediately follow at 10 o'clock. Interment will take place at a later date at the Chebogue Cemetery in Yarmouth, Nova Scotia.
