Emmett was born on October 26, 1921, in Pontotoc, Okla., to Walter T. and Mamie (Tushkatombie) Seeley. He passed away Wednesday, Nov. 3, 2010, in Davis at the age of 89 years and 11 days.

Others preceding him in death include his parents; one sister, Mary Ann Allen; as well as five brothers, Leon, Joseph, Walton, Otwell and Ben Seeley.
After graduating from Chilocco Indian School, Emmett began playing farm team baseball. It was during that time that the New York Yankees discovered him and drafted him to play professional baseball for them. While with the Yankees, Emmett played with Mickey Mantel, Charlie Pride and John Bernadino. His career as a professional baseball player ended on July 20, 1942, when he was drafted into the U.S. Army.

His brave service to his country earned him many decorations and citations, including Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon with Three Bronze Battle stars, Order of the Purple Heart Expert Infantryman’s Badge, Combat Infantryman’s Badge as well as a Good Conduct Ribbon Victory Medal. Emmett was Honorably Discharged on May 15, 1946.
In the early 1960s he was elected and served as the Court Clerk in Murray County for several years. Though his baseball career ended suddenly, his love for the sport never changed. Emmett renewed his baseball passion by coaching many Murray County boys in both Little League and Pony League teams in Sulphur.
The life changing injuries received during WW II, forced Emmett to retire early in life. Emmett served as the chairman for the Murray County Selective Service board during the Vietnam Era. He was a very proud Elder of the Chickasaw Nation, as well as a member of the Beaty Baptist Church in Pauls Valley.
