Elmo Keith SEELY
(Obituary Transcription Elmo Keith Seely
Elmo Keith Seely died March 17, 1994, in Eureka at age 81. A native of Arcata, he was a resident of Eureka.
Elmo was the second of six children born to Charles Edward and Jane Redmond Seely. He was a professional photographer for 55 years. In 1934, he and his father became business partners in Seely’s Studio at 526 G. St. in Arcata, where the studio remained in business until 1989. The studio specialty was portrait photography. Elmo also took many wedding pictures and many thousands of Humboldt County residents had elementary school and high school senior portraits taken by Seely’s Studio. Elmo was a member of Kiwanis for nearly 38 years, rarely missing a meeting until his health failed. He was a member of the Humboldt County Historical Society.
Elmo was an avid sports enthusiast who loved to watch his sons and grandchildren play and seldom missed a game. They will always remember “Who’s On First?” Other things he especially enjoyed were classical music, old Buicks, Johnny Carson, the horse races in Ferndale and living in Humboldt County, which he referred to as “God’s Country.” It has been rumored that Elmo was also a fan of Rush Limbaugh – some members of the family would like to squelch that rumor. He did enjoy hearing a good joke, and telling a bad pun. He will truly be missed by his family and friends and will be remembered as a gentle and humorous man.
He is survived by three sons, Michael Seely, Kevin Seely and Ned Seely and his wife, Mary; a daughter and her husband, Jennifer and Michael Lovewell; a sister, Ollie Kahn and her family of San Lorenzo; grandchildren, Randy and Christy Cessna and Mecca and Nick Seely; a great granddaughter (copy cut-off)
