Christian Science figure Seeley dies

Paul Stark Seeley, a leading figure in the Christian Science Church for more than half a century, died Sunday at his Portland home. He was 93.

Mr. Seeley was born in Poughkeepsie, N.Y., and, after graduating from Princeton University and Harvard Law School, moved to Oregon in 1910.

After his mother recovered from an illness, he became interested in the religion of Mary Baker Eddy, and devoted most of his life to it.

He was a member of the Oregon Christian Science Committee on Publication from 1912 to 1915 and was first reader of the First Church in Portland in 1915-1916.

He was a member of the Board of Lectureship of The Mother Church in Boston from 1916 to 1942 and from 1948 to 1966. He was associate editor of Christian Science periodicals from 1942 to 1948 and served as president of The Mother Church from 1944 to 1945. He was a member of the Harvard Club in Boston and the University Club in Portland.

Services will be private.

Surviving are his wife, Vernita, a son, John of Scottsdale, Ariz.; and two grandsons.
