Phaye L. SEELYE Crash Victim’s Rites Announced LEBANON – Funeral arrangements for Mrs. Phye Seelye, 71, of Port Orford, who died when the car in which she was riding plunged from the Santiam pass near Santiam Junction Wednesday, will be at 3 p.m. Monday at the Mt. Scott Funeral home in Portland. Entombment will be at Lincoln Memorial Park. Jost Funeral home here is in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Seelye was born Oct. 18, 1889, in California. She was a member of the Community church, American Legion Auxiliary and World War I Barracks auxiliary at Port Orford; and Sixes Grange No. 856. In addition to her husband Edgar, she is survived by a son, Edgar Jr. of Milwaukie, and a daughter, Mrs. Lois Reynolds of Prineville; a sister, Mrs. Nellie Chaussee, also of Port Orford, and seven grandchildren. Published in the Democrat Herald (Albany, Oregon), May 13, 1961, page 2 Woman Dies In Car Crash SANTIAM JUNCTION – A woman was killed and a man critically injured about 10 a.m. today when the car in which they were riding plunged off Highway 20 near the summit of Santiam Pass. The dead woman was identified as Mrs. Phaye L. Seelye, Port Orford. The man, who was taken to the St. Charles Hospital in Bend, was identified from documents on his person as E.J. Seelye, co-owner and driver of the wrecked car. State police at Bend said that the couple went off the road and plummeted 150 feet almost straight down near Hogg Rock when they ran into bad weather. They said that it was snowing hard and a toboggan was used to bring out the injured man and the dead woman. Time of the accident was established as being about 10:15 a.m. although there were no witnesses. Details were still lacking at press time. The accident occurred near the Linn County line and the woman became the county’s second traffic fatality of the year.
