Sam A. Seelye Passes

Sam A. Seelye, a resident of the Cairo community, for about 18 years past, passed away very suddenly at his home three and a half miles southwest of Ontario, last Tuesday afternoon, at the age of 50 years, 11 months, and three days. Although in poor health all winter, his condition had not been considered serious, and his death came as a surprise to his family and friends.

Mr. Seelye was born in Cresco, Iowa, April 2, 1878, and after living in the middle west for a number of years, came to Oregon and Malheur county, where he has since resided. He is survived by his wife and two daughters, Ida, a sophomore at Ontario high school, and Geneve, a student at the Cairo school. He also leaves three brothers and two sisters.

Funeral services were held on Friday afternoon, March 8, from the Methodist church, Rev. N.H. Lines officiating. The officers of the Ontario Camp 9285 M.W.A. of which Mr. Seelye was a member, including R.D. Breckon, J.H. Howland, W.P. Weikal, C.E. Secoy, Hans Oft and Louis Kroessin, acted as pall bearers. Internment was in the Ontario cemetery.
