Jane R. SEELY

(Fiftieth Anniversary Announcement

The story went on to elaborate on the fact that the young couple didn’t want a “big fuss” made over them and so they planned to elope quietly. The news leaked out and the friends who would have attended the wedding ceremony gathered instead, at the wharf as the couple boarded the steamer Kilburn.

On Sunday, February 14, this same couple will be honored at an open house at their home, 251 Brett street from 2 to 5 p.m. The couple’s children and children-in-law will assist in entertaining.

The Seely’s are widely known in this area. “Ed” Seely started in the photography business with two brothers, Walter and Dick, in 1903 in Eureka, subsequently moving to Arcata in 1911. Ed Seely continued as sole owner of Seely’s studio after his brothers moved to southern California, where they continued in the photograph business.

From 1919 until 1953 Seely’s studio was located in Eureka, at which time it was returned in Arcata. Elmo joined his father in 1954. Dick is still in photography business in balboa and Walter is now deceased.

Ed Seely is well known for club work, being a member of the Lions club for a number of years and has been active in aiding in the work of the Blind club.
Mrs. Jennie Seely is also widely known as a club worker, belonging to the Eureka Woman’s club, Eagles Auxiliary, Lions Auxiliary and St. Elizabeth’s Guild. They also belong to the Knife and Fork club.

They have four sons and one daughter, Richard, Elmo, Arthur, Robert, and Olive (Mrs. Burnell Kahn). All the sons live in Eureka, and Mrs. Kahn lives in San Lorenzo. There are 13 grandchildren.

Friends and acquaintances are invited to call at the home during the open house but the couple requests that no gifts be brought.
